What Will You Learn?

In this course, you’ll learn to code starting from the very basics. Scratch, developed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), makes programming both fun and approachable—almost like playing a game. You’ll create your own games and applications while mastering fundamental coding skills. By the end of this course, you’ll not only be able to create animations and cool effects but also replicate popular games. These skills will serve as a foundation for quickly learning text-based programming languages.

Course Outline

• Lesson 1: About Me Program. Students will create backdrops and transform them into a slideshow by coordinating events and switching backdrops.
• Lesson 2: Animate Your Name. Focuses on editing sprites, understanding x & y coordinates for positioning and movement, using loops, and introducing message broadcasting.
• Lesson 3: Dialogue Between Sprites. Teaches message broadcasting and motion through the creation of sprite dialogues.
• Lesson 4: Dance Party. Covers motion, editing backdrops, and using loops to create an animated dance party.
• Lesson 5: Ping-Pong Game. Introduces Scratch 2 with a focus on x and y coordinates, sensing, and variables while creating a simple game.

Requirements

• A computer (PC, Mac, or Linux).
• A web browser (Chrome is recommended) and a reliable, high-speed internet connection.
• No prior programming experience is required.
