About Course

The Web Development Level 1 class focuses on front-end development using HTML and CSS while introducing students to back-end development with JavaScript. Students will learn how to create functional, visually appealing websites, applications, and games.

Through this course, students will develop essential skills such as analytical thinking, an algorithmic mindset, scientific reasoning, and STEM competencies, empowering them to solve real-world problems.

Classes are held on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.

Course Outline

  • Lesson 1: What is HTML? Students will learn the basic starter code of all HTML code.
  • Lesson 2: What is CSS? Students will learn how to add basic CSS attributes to their sites.
  • Lesson 3: What makes a website professional? Students will create a navigation bar.
  • Lesson 4: What makes a website professional? (Part 2) Students will learn how to use flex boxes to organize their site.
  • Lesson 5: How does HTML, CSS, and javascript interact with each other? (Part 1) Students will be introduced to javascript.
  • Lesson 6: How can we make websites interactive? (Part 2) Students will learn how to connect javascript to their websites.
  • Lesson 7: How do we demo a coding project? Students will share their finished project to the class and receive feedback on their code and presentation.

Requirements

  • A computer (PC, Mac, or Linux).
  • A web browser, preferably chrome, and very high-speed internet
  • Zoom

Audience

  • Kids from ages 7+ and beginners who want to develop their analytical skills and web designing skills
  • Parents or teachers who want to help their children develop problem-solving skills
